Dr. Nick Copeli MD comes to Extension Health with extensive technical experience in the emerging field of Interventional Orthopedics. Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Regenerative medicine with fellowship-training in interventional pain medicine, Dr. Copeli comes to Extension after working with top practitioners in the field of regenerative interventional orthopedics. Dr. Copeli has significant experience treating both sports and spinal injuries with Orthobiologics and energy modalities.
Dr. Copeli received his Medical Degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and then went to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell-NYP Queens, winning awards for both teaching and research. During a successful career as an assistant medical director and ultrasound director at a three-hospital system in Los Angeles serving over 100,000 patients per year, he spoke nationally and internationally on the use of Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for orthopedic injuries. After serving as team physician for Whitter College’s collective DIII teams, he returned to New York to complete Sports Medicine fellowship at Zucker North Shore Hospital.
Dr. Copeli has provided clinical consulting for the NBA, USA Boxing, Maccabi USA and the US Olympic team training ground as a volunteer physician. A previous NHL team physician for the NY Islanders, Dr. Copeli is currently a team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard team, and recently joined the NY State Athletic Commission to serve as an official ringside physician for professional boxing and MMA events.
