How should I prepare for my lab tests?
Our team will provide pre-lab test instructions.
Do I need to fast?
A 4-6 hour fast is required prior to their lab tests to ensure the most accurate results.
How often should I get follow-up lab tests?
Recommended lab test frequency may depend on whether or not you have (or are at heightened risk of developing) specific chronic conditions. Generally, for those who want to proactively track their health over time, annual lab tests is recommended.
How long will it take to get my results?
Your results are typically returned within 7-10 days. If you want to schedule a follow-up consultation to review your results or explore more advanced lab test options, we recommend scheduling at least 10 days after your initial blood draw.
Are lab tests covered by insurance?
Lab tests at Extension Health is self-pay only and not covered by insurance.
Will I experience any side effects from the blood draw?
Side effects and reactions from a blood draw tend to be mild and temporary. Some patients do report feeling dizzy or nauseous at the sight of blood. Some patients also experience light bruising and sensitivity around the area where blood is drawn.
Can I get lab tests without a doctor’s referral?
Yes, you can get lab tests without a doctor's referral. We don’t require a referral for any of our services, including lab work and tests, so you can schedule and access the tests directly.
Can I drink water before a blood test?
In most cases, it’s fine to drink water before a blood test, as long as you avoid any sugary drinks or caffeine. In fact, staying hydrated can make blood draws easier. However, if you’re required to fast for specific tests, make sure to follow the fasting instructions provided by your healthcare provider or lab.
Can I get my lab results sent directly to my doctor?
Yes, we can send your lab results to your doctor, but you will need to sign a record release form authorizing us to share your results. This ensures that your doctor receives the information securely and with your consent.
How can I get a copy of my lab results?
Once your lab results are available, we will send them directly to you. You can access your results through secure channels, making it easy to review your findings and discuss next steps with your provider.
