How should I prepare for my blood work?

Our team will provide pre-blood draw information.

A 4-6 hour fast is required prior to their blood draw to ensure the most accurate results

  • Vitamin D, 25-OH (crucial vitamin for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation)

  • Vitamin B12 (vital for nerve function and the production of red blood cells)

  • Estradiol (key hormone for reproductive health)

  • FSH (key hormone for regulating reproductive health function)

  • Dihydrotestosterone (key male reproductive hormone)

Recommended blood work frequency may depend on whether or not you have (or are at heightened risk of developing) specific chronic conditions. Generally, for those who want to proactively track their health over time, annual blood work is recommended.

Your results are typically returned within 7-10 days. If you want to schedule a follow-up consultation to review your results or explore more advanced blood work options, we recommend scheduling at least 10 days after your initial blood draw.

Blood work at Extension Health is self-pay only and not covered by insurance.

Side effects and reactions from a blood draw tend to be mild and temporary. Some patients do report feeling dizzy or nauseous at the sight of blood. Some patients also experience light bruising and sensitivity around the area where blood is drawn.
