How does Plasma Exchange Therapy work?
Here is an overview of what to expect during plasma exchange:
Step 1. Withdrawal
Your blood is withdrawn via IV.
Step 2. Plasma Separation
Your withdrawn blood is processed in a centrifuge that separates
out your plasma from other blood components (red and white
blood cells, platelets).
Step 3. Replacement
Your plasma is replaced with saline and a protein called Albumin.
Step 4. Re-Infusion
Your freshly filtered blood is re-infused via IV.
How do you separate the plasma?
After the blood is drawn, it is run through a centrifuge that separates the plasma from the other blood products.
How much does Plasma Exchange Therapy cost?
Plasma Exchange Therapy at Extension Health is administered from our West Village NYC location and costs $10,000 per session. It is not covered by insurance and is self-pay only.
Who shouldn’t get Plasma Exchange Therapy?
